Choosing Concrete Fence Posts and Gravel Boards

Dodds Fencing and Sheds EST 1963 supplies concrete fence posts and gravel boards for collection from our Stockton-on-Tees sawmill and local delivery across Teesside. Use the guide below to choose compatible components, then check every size before ordering because these heavy products are non-returnable.

6-inch or 12-inch gravel boards?

A 6-inch gravel board raises a timber panel clear of damp ground while retaining more of the timber-panel height. A 12-inch board offers extra protection and is useful where the ground level varies or a deeper concrete base is preferred. Both boards are six feet long to suit standard six-foot fence bays.

Which posts fit?

Standard slotted intermediate, end and corner concrete posts accept both 6-inch and 12-inch gravel boards with standard fence panels. Choose the post type for its position and allow for the combined panel-and-board height plus the section installed in the ground. Multi-holed posts are intended for rail-built fencing and use the appropriate fixings.

How many components do I need?

Allow one gravel board and one fence panel for each six-foot bay. A straight run normally needs one intermediate post between adjoining bays and an end post at each end. Corners, gates and changes in level need the appropriate specialist posts. Use the Fence Calculator for a project-specific materials list.

Delivery, collection and installation

Concrete posts and gravel boards can be collected in Stockton-on-Tees or delivered locally, subject to the current postcode and order rules shown at checkout. Concrete Fencing FAQs

Should I choose a 6-inch or 12-inch concrete gravel board?

Choose a 6-inch board where you mainly need to keep the timber panel off the ground. A 12-inch board provides a deeper concrete base and can help where ground levels vary. Remember that the board contributes to the overall fence height.

Do both gravel-board sizes fit standard slotted concrete posts?

Yes. Dodds’ six-foot 6-inch and 12-inch gravel boards fit standard slotted intermediate, end and corner concrete posts. Select the correct post length for the combined panel-and-board height and installation depth.

How many posts and gravel boards do I need?

Allow one gravel board per six-foot bay. A straight run generally needs a post between each pair of bays plus the correct end posts. Corners, gates and uneven ground may change the quantities, so use the Fence Calculator or request a site estimate.

Can Dodds arrange delivery and installation in Stockton-on-Tees?

Local delivery and collection are available according to the current order and postcode rules. Dodds supplies the materials and can introduce customers to independent Dodds Approved Installers who quote for and carry out installation directly.
